Message From The Principal
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Widefield High School; a building with a long history of academic excellence, pride, tradition, family, and commitment.
The staff at Widefield High School is committed to and proud of our 61 years of tradition and commitment to excellence. We offer our students a top-notch education in a safe and structured learning environment. Widefield has evolved throughout the years from the flagship of the district to the iconic symbol of a community where the small town feel and attitude is still very much alive. We hold ourselves and our students to high standards, and we believe in doing whatever it takes to help our students be successful in all aspects of the school community.
The entire staff at Widefield High School works toward helping students achieve their academic potential. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of our students, and our staff members masterfully prepare lessons that are engaging, relevant, and meaningful. Students that graduate from Widefield High School have the ability to attract honors, awards, and recognition from Ivy League schools, service academies, and two- and four-year universities from around the nation. The Class of 2020 accumulated over 2 million dollars in scholarship awards last year. Through a partnership with our state colleges and universities, our students have the opportunity to earn college credit and begin developing their college transcript while taking classes here on our campus. Our graduation rate stays above 90%, and our dropout rate has never exceeded 3.5% in our 61-year history. This indicates that we do an excellent job of helping students realize their potential in the classroom, and we motivate them to overcome any obstacles that may come their way. We are very proud of our accomplishments both in and out of the classroom, and we look forward to working with all students as we strive for excellence in all that we do.
In addition to our strong academic programs, we are very proud to offer a comprehensive curriculum that allows all students to connect to the educational community. While we take pride in our state and national test results, many of the accomplishments of students at Widefield High School are not as easily measured. At Widefield High School, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of activities and opportunities for students to be involved, as well as providing a top notch education in which students are encouraged to reach their true potential, both in and out of the classroom. Our programs range from core academic classes to enticing electives, from rigorous academics to a large variety of clubs and after-school activities, from AP and Honors classes to specialized training in PLTW areas such as Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, and Computer Science, from the traditional classroom setting to our Manufacturing Industry Learning Lab National Training Center, from our academic recognition programs like National Honor Society and Renaissance Program to highly competitive and successful Colorado high school athletics. Through all of our programs, the stellar staff at Widefield High School strives to foster well-rounded students who are consistently challenged to reach their full potential.
We are excited to have you and your child join the Widefield High School community, and we encourage you to take part in our school activities and educational programs. We recognize the importance of partnering with parents and guardians, and it is through the cooperation of home and school that we can truly foster success for all students.
As we work to navigate through the uncharted waters of school during the COVID-19 pandemic, we will have updated information regarding schedules, athletics, and activities on our website at whs.wsd3.org. We are committed to the safety of our students, staff, and parents, and we are doing everything within our power to ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment at Widefield High School. If you or your child have any questions about any aspect of life at Widefield High School, please do not hesitate to call us at (719) 391-3200.
